WESTERN COLLEGE ART PRIZE

Western College has established a bi-annual Art Prize with the aim of fostering creative pursuit and promoting regional artists, while acknowledging the role of art in education. Western College supports art as an important education re-engagement tool and accordingly support the local and regional arts community. Art plays an important part in our society and is sometimes overlooked by part of our community as an elitist pursuit. Art and culture can be perused by anyone who chooses to and we encourage any budding artists to partake in our competition. Our pursuit of educational outcomes for everyone in the community – and therefore to the benefit of the community as a whole – is geared towards flexibility and creativity in the learning process.

The Prize welcomes entries from all artists from all levels of ability, and there is a special incentive for indigenous artists and artists who are undertaking any form of study. It is open to all artists of any age. There are 3 main categories on which prize money is on offer. Main prize is $2200; there is a student prize of $500 and an indigenous prize of $500. The art competition is allocated a theme which reflects Western College core values. This year the theme is “Passion”.
